Don’t let life get in the way of living…

… Don’t let life get in the way of living — a simple comment I made in response to a comment in my last post.

There have been a few things going on in my life of late, which seem to be roadblocks – roadblocks which are big enough, important enough, serious enough to get in the way of living. I am trying hard not to let these bumps, on the road of the life I am living get in the way. It is not easy!

It is 7:00 in the morning here right now – I have been up and at my computer for three hours. As I look out my office I can just make out the shapes of what is out in Dudley’s yard. It is dark – the days of winter are approaching fast. It is stormy today, with the wind bending the trees almost to the point of breaking, and the rain is like a river from the sky it is falling so fast. The deck door to Dudley’s yard is open, held firmly in place by a piece of cord Jamie attached a few years back just for the purpose of not slamming closed on a windy day and trapping a poor Dog or Can in the process. I have the door of my office, which leads to the above mentioned deck (which is enclosed), open about 6 inches, propped in that position by one of the office chairs. I have it this way for two reasons. One – so that Zoey and Kiwi can come in and out of the house on their own, without me having to get up from the computer every minute or two to open the door to their insistent meows. Two – because the cool breeze that is coming in from the door feels good – invigorating if you will. The power was out in the middle of the night, I could tell that when I woke up and my clock was flashing. By the sounds of the wind it will go out again.

The storm outside is much how I am feeling this morning on the inside – life at this moment is getting in the way of living – I need to put the brakes on – I need to follow my own advice – Don’t let life get in the way of living. A simple statement – which is much easier to say than to do.

I am going to do the loop today – perhaps several times – together or separate. I am going to do the loop alone, with perhaps only the company of the dogs. I need the time to think, to clear my head. To step into living I need to feel the wind, and taste the rain.

  1. A walk, the wind, and the rain ought to clear up a few of those roadblocks for you (mentally, at least).

  2. I hope so Robin!

  3. If you can’t jump over those roadblocks, you can always slide under them. I do that once in awhile just so I can keep on my journey!

  4. Very good advice Barbara – Thank you!

  5. I hope doing the loop will help. Sometimes we need a little fresh air and wet rain to wash the cobwebs away and think clearly.

I hope it works. It’s not fun when life gets in our way!

  6. sometimes whe life gets in the way of living we need to look at the reasons behind it and see if we could be over looking something that we should be doing instead.. a change in direction perhaps??

  7. Hey, thanks for your comments over on my blog, especially the suggestion about boiling eggs! I’ll definitely try it next time.

  8. Shepet — perhaps – a change in direction is hard though when another is involved… but perhaps.

  9. Bunny I enjoyed reading your blog – I hope the eggs trick works for you.
